Creative Circus graduate, Nick Zafonte, makes the leap from Creative Director to Film Director.

New York, NY – After 8 years of writing ads for some of the world’s most iconic brands, Creative Circus Alumni Nicholas Zafonte prepares to write and direct his first independent movie.

ElfYourselfNick left The Creative Circus in 2006 to embark on a successful copywriting career, working full time at Ari Merkin’s start up Toy and New York creative powerhouse BBH where he produced award-winning work for Johnnie Walker, Axe, LG, Miller Lite, and Levi’s. His “Elf Yourself” viral campaign for Office Max had over 40 million visits and a record breaking half billion hits in less than 5 weeks and has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, The New York Times, USA Today, VH1’s Best Week Ever, and Entertainment Weekly’s “The Must List” and is now a favorite recurring holiday site.

Four years ago he left full-time agency life to freelance while launching his independent production company, Sharawadgi. Since then he’s juggled projects at BBDO, Chiat Day, Wieden Kennedy, Goodby Silverstein and Partners, Johannes Leonardo and other top shops while writing/directing/producing music videos, commercials, and his first award winning short film, The First Day.

Next month he makes his feature film directorial debut with the indie flick “No Retreat.”

About the film: “No Retreat” is comedic drama, feature film about 2 best friends who reunite 10 years later for one last shot at making it as writers. Over the course of a weekend their relationship is tested when old insecurities, creative inequalities, and their unfinished sexual past rears its ugly head. All the while revealing the complexities of being an artist in a world encumbered with adult responsibilities.

Weaving together unexpected plot twists with subtle true-to-life dialogue, the film is a delicate balance of plot and character study. On the surface the story is simple enough – 1 location, 2 characters, 3 days ofreminiscing, rekindling, and finally settling old scores. But beneath the text is a meta-analysis of filmmaking as the writer/producers themselves met over 10 years ago before reuniting to form their production company.

It will star Samantha Soule who’s appeared in Law & Order SVU, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road and Josh Tyson who’s starred in Off Broadway’s Three Sisters at the Classical Theater of Harlem, Law & Order, and the short films Alabaster and The First Day.

It shoots April 2014 on Long Island, NY. indiegogo.com/projects/no-retreat
